How To Save Money and Spend Less

Create a personal budget. You will instantly see your incomings and outgoings once you create your budget. You will not be able to save money unless you know how much money you have coming in, and how much money you have going out. Once you have prepared a budget of incoming money and outgoing money, you WILL be able to identify areas where you can save.

Create a balance log, cash log, and debt log. You can find these under the Organize Your Life page of this blog on the right hand side. The Balance Log is for you to mark down each transaction, money going in or out. Write the store name and price of total receipts so you can see an overview of where you spend your money at. The Cash Log is for you to write in each individual item that you spent at each store so you know what you spend your money on. The debt log is to write each personal debt you owe and monthly payments.

Make a Perfect Home Chart. This document is also located under the Organize Your Life Page. Create a sketch of each room. Include where furniture, accessories, and what you want that room used for. Make a list of everthing that would make that room perfect to where you would never buy anything for that room again. If it’s a living room, write down each piece of furniture, how many accessories, pictures, lamps, rug, end tables, coffee table, etc. If it is a kitchen, you would write down appliances, how many spatulas and other kitchen utensils you would need so that room is perfect. The idea behind this is so you don’t buy anything that doesn’t fit or need in that room and will never have to buy anything for that room again once it is complete.
Before going shopping, make a list of what you need to buy and don’t buy anything that is not on the list.
When going to the store, look straight ahead when going down aisles. This will keep you from looking at all the different merchandise that you don’t need and wanting to buy it.
Walk quickly down the aisles to keep you from stopping and staring at each individual item. Grab what you need in the store and don’t linger.

Don’t touch or hold objects. Once you touch or hold a product, you instantly become attached to it.
Only buy what you can need when you can afford it.
Pay off debt. Interest takes away money each month that you can be spending on something else. Pay off debt immediately or consolidate your debt.

Cut up all credit cards.
Never buy resale. Use coupons and look for discounts at other stores. Wait till it goes on sale.
Set up a savings allotment. At your local bank or online banking, you can set up an allotment so a certain amount of your pay check will go directly into your savings account. My husband and I use to put $25 per pay check into savings, and once he got promoted we put $50 per pay check. Find out how much will work for you and set up an allotment so you don’t spend all your money before you have the chance to put it into savings.

After all bills are paid, for every dollar you spend, you have to set aside double to put into savings. If you don’t have double to put into savings, don’t buy it.

Drink water. Eliminate sodas, coffees, and other expensive drinks. Plus its great for you and will help you lose weight. When you lose weight, you eat less which cuts down your food expenses as well.

Eat less. Leave ¼ of your meal behind or put a little less food on your plate then usual.. Train yourself to eat less and you will cut down on food expenses.

Brown bag your lunch to work. This is a lot healthier and will cut down on eating out for lunch.

Cook homemade meals. Don’t buy boxed, premade meals, microwave meals, frozen dinners, or go out to eat. This will save you a lot of money on your grocery bill and save you money. Plan one day a month where you and your family can go out to eat.

Avoid the snack, ice cream, and soda aisles at the grocery store. If you avoid them all together you won’t get the urge to buy all those unhealthy snacks and drinks. Keep the food in your home healthy. Instead buy apples, grapes, or other fresh fruits.

Sign up for WIC. You will get checks for milk, fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese, and other foods that will cut the cost of your grocery bill.

Plan meals in advance so you only buy food that go with the meals you are making. Use coupons in newspaper or near items at the store. Each product at the store goes on sale every three months. So when you see an item that is on sale, buy 3 months of supply for that item if you can afford it or grab extra coupons to use them later.

Filter water instead of buying bottled water. It is better for the environment and a lot cheaper.

Avoid vending machines and candy at the checkout.. Look for coupons in ads for candy if you must have it and only buy it when you have it on sale. Keep a cooler in your car and you can keep other sodas or candy in the cooler to eat when you REALLY need it. Its best to try to cut out as much candy and sugar as possible though so set a limit.

Sign up for customer rewards, groupon, living social, deal finder and more to find best deals near you.

Invite friends over instead of going out. Play games, socialize, eat dinner, watch movies.

Research for the best prices first. When you find a product you like, go home and get online to search for the best deals. Type in key words in google, amazon, ebay, retail me not and other discount places. If you go to the ITT prices and Deals and Discounts page on this blog you will find tons of other websites that give you discounts. Also look for coupon codes for the store as well.

Do you have a friend or group of friends that would be willing to do dinner dates each week or once a month? Each friend gets 1 day out of the week or month that they cook a big meal to share. Maybe you have Thursday that you cook and share with 2 friends, and your other 2 friends have Friday and Saturday. That way you only have to cook dinner 5-6 nights a week.

Reduce to spending 1 hour or less on your computer, cell phone, video cames, TV, or other electronic device. Watch the 3 videos on Organize Your Life, so you are making the most out of your day and spending your time wisely. That way bills, chores, and everything else gets done in a timely manner.

Spend more time with your family. If you are spending money cause you have nothing else to do, spend time with your family, go to the park, go on a walk, exercise, teach, and plan fun, free activities to do together. Go online and find free concerts and events to attend.

Stay home instead of going out. Take up a hobby, clean, or spend time outside instead of in stores.

Cut your husband and boys hair instead of having them go to the barber.

Use Pandora, Vevo or Spotify to listen to music rather then buy CDs.

Use Netflix and Hulu for movies and TV. Netflix is cheaper than buying DVDs and rentals and HULU is free!

Go to the library or use Ebooks rather than buying books.

Cancel magazine and/or newspaper subscriptions. If you use coupons, only subscribe to the Sunday newspaper.

Cancel your gym membership and work out from home. Under the Tips and Tricks tab of this blog you will find tons of workouts you can use from home or workout to a DVD.

Be more energy efficient. Turn off the lights in the room or in the house when you leave that area or home. Unplug any items that are not in use such as, curling iron, toaster, kitchen aid, etc. It still uses electricity if it is plugged in.

Eat less meat. I love meat, but it is expensive and adds up. Plan your meals so you only have it 1-3 X a week.

Swap clothes with a friend rather than buy new clothes. Set a limit to how many shirts, pants, jackets, etc that you need. When one item of clothing goes in, another goes out.

Borrow big ticket items. Under the Tips and Tricks tab on this blog you can find out different online places or stores where you can borrow big ticket items. Or borrow them from a friend.

Do your own taxes. If you live on base, they can do your taxes for free. You can go to H&R block and they can tell you how much you should be getting back without filing there and compare the difference and do them yourself.

Go to gasbuddy.com or get the gas saving ap on your phone to find the cheapest gas prices in town.

Don’t speed. Drive carefully. This will avoid speeding tickets and damage to yourself, your vehicle or someone else which is very costly.

Swap babysitting. Babysit a friends kids for free one night a week and she babysits your kids one night a week for date nights or alone time.

The best time to do holiday shopping is after the holidays. Buy gifts in advance and when they are on sale and save it for that special occasion. The best time to buy holiday items is after the holiday is over when everything is 75-90 percent off.

Consolidate student loans.

Buy right the first time. Go back to the Perfect Home Chart and make sure that you are buying exactly what you want instead of buying something that wasn’t exactly what you want but will work until you get what you want. It will cost more money if you have to buy something twice. Keep in mind that once you buy something, never buy it again.

Eliminate cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, and other unhealthy habits that are costly.

Bread is expensive. Instead make it from scratch! Find easy bread making recipes online. Its healthier and cheaper.
When buying milk, bread, or other perishable items, remember to look at the expiration date of 4-6 items before choosing an item. The newer items are usually toward the back. Check front, back, and opposite sides to find the item with the latest expiration date. I have gone and looked for bread and one would say 1 week from that day and looking around at other dates, another would say 2 weeks from that day. That bought me an extra week that it wouldn’t expire and would last longer.

Buy used instead of new items if it is for a temporary reason such as a sons football gear, snow blower, a prom/ball night, books, things that you only use once or things that happen only 1 or twice a year.

Properly care for what you have so you wont have to buy that item again. Instead of buying something new, refurbish and take care of what you have. Toys, or outside items can be sprayed down with a power washer and cleaned to look new. Picture frames, furniture can be painted or refurbished to look brand new.

Buy a late model car instead of a new one.

Avoid spending triggers. If its certain online shopping, mall, or stores where you spend your money, avoid those places. If you don’t see it you wont regret not having it.

Be content with what you have. Things can’t bring you happiness. Everyone can choose to be happy. It’s a choice. Its not things that make you happy. Instead use your time to better your life or someone else’s life. Use your time, energy, and money on making a better home for you and your family.

Wait till an item is on sale before purchasing. I promise you it will go on sale again. For big purchases, save up money so you can buy it on black Friday where everything is super cheap and on sale.

Watch the 3 videos on how to create a life organizer. Write down your goals in life, what is your purpose in life and why are you here. If it doesn’t help you move toward your goal, what you want to be in life and what you were put on earth to do, then don’t buy it. Think to yourself, will this matter a year from now? Is this something I REALLY need? Can I live without it? Do I have something that can already do the job? Do I already have this item?

Tips on How to Lose Weight

1. Drink Water. If you cut all your caffiene and sugar drink intake and start drinking water you can lose up to 5 lbs in a week! If your not a water drinker, just try this for a week and see if it works for you. If your not ready to give up caffiene just yet, drink a glass of water in between your glass of caffiene. So if you have a glass of soda, drink a glass of water next before drinking another glass of soda.
2. Eat off a dessert plate and dont go for seconds. Your stomach is the size of your fist. So to keep yourself from over eating, put your bigger plates up top and your dessert plates down where you can easily access them and eat off a dessert plate.

3. Eat 3 meals a day, and 1-2 healthy snacks in between. If you constantly eat cause you have nothing to do, find something to do and keep yourself busy to keep your mind off food. Dont skip out on meals cause your body will store the fat.

4. Use larger utensils to eat. By using larger utensils you feel like your eating more, whereas if you eat with smaller spoons or forks you tend to eat more cause you feel like your not eating enough.

5. Yellow and red make you want to eat more, so instead eat off of blue plates which make you want to eat less. McDonalds colors are yellow and red which make people tend to eat more. Don't paint your kitchen either of these colors if you are trying to lose weight.

6. Dance! Dancing burns tons of calories and its fun! So turn up the music and while you are doing chores, in between commercials, or during your spare time practice those dance moves!

7. Do mini workout sessions. You can either work out 30 min a day, 3 times a week or do mini workout sessions everyday for 5-10 min. Some workout is better than no workout. Use the excercises off the TIPS AND TRICKS page or make your own. Workout during commercials, when you get up in the morning, during your spare time, at night, etc. Do lunges as you go from one room to the next....run up and down the stairs anytime you need to use them...do simple stretches while cooking food...you can make it apart of your regular routine without taking time out of your day.

8. Go on daily walks. Go on a daily walk with your spouse or family. Its a great bonding experience as well as great exercise.

9. Tighten your abs. You can do this anywhere! Just tighten your abs for 1 min at a time. You can still crunch your abs and breathe in and out.

10. Stay busy and active. Go out with your kids and do something fun, take up a new hobby, and stay busy. Keeping your body busy burns calories. Don't sit around and watch TV or take naps during the day. Instead find something active to do whether its going to the park, hanging out with friends and family, sports, or go have fun. You should be walking atleast 10,000 steps a day. Get a pedometer and track your progress.

11. De-stress. Take time to meditate and use the Stress Management Tips on this blog to help de-stress. It's hard to take care of your body when your overwhelmed. Take care of yourself first so you can help others.

12. When you first wake up, drink a glass of water, and before and during every meal.

13. Eat and snack on fruit. Dont forget vegetables! Use the food pyramid to know how much you should be eating each day.

14. Make homemade meals instead of eating fast food or boxed food. Have fixed meal times.

15. Dont eat past 7 PM

16. You should eliminate or rarely eat any of the following: fried anything, frozen waffles, McDonalds, doughnuts, carrot cake, candy.

17. Count calories. http://www.shapefit.com/dailycalorie-calc.html. find out how many calories you should be eating each day. 1 lb is 3500 calories. You need to burn 3500 more calories than you consume. If you want to burn 1 lb a week, eat 500 less calories each day.

18. Take the stairs 2 at a time

19. Dont eat more than 1 egg a day, or 3 a week.

20. Eliminate smoking/drinking

21. Eat breakfast within 1 hour of waking

22. Go swimming or play sports

23. Savor each bite. Chew everything 32 times.

24. Look at the label. Fat should be less than 30%.

25. Take the stairs instead of an elevator.

26. Don't use the remote. Instead turn off the tv or stand up and change the channel yourself.

27. Workout during commercials

28. Park further away

29. Do Yoga/Pilates atleast once or twice a week.

30. Instead of wishing you had the body you always wanted, believe that you already have it. When you see a picture of someone who has a great body, pretend it is yours. When you believe you already have that body, the law of attraction will give you what you want if you believe it with all your heart.

31. Do the plank (exercise where you are in the push up position and hold it) for 30 seconds a day.

32. Best time to exercise is after breakfast

33. Restaurants serve 4 times more food than what you should be eating. Eat only 1/4 or 1/2 of the meal.

34. Raise yourself up on your toes and lower back down without letting your heels touch the ground and repeat 50 times.

35. Sit up straight

36. Tighten/tuck in your tummy

37. Punch a pillow (25-50 x)

38. Sitting is better than lying down. Standing is better than sitting. Walking is better than standing. Running is better than walking. Everything you do makes a difference no matter what or how long. Remember going slow around 1 lap is still a lap above anyone sitting on the couch.

40. Get a pedometer. You should be doing about 10,000 steps a day.

41. When going to the grocery store, plan your meals ahead of time so you only get what you put on your list. Skip the soda and snack aisles. There would be no need to resist temptation if the junk food is not in your house. Skip boxed, frozen, or pre-made meals.
42. Here are some activites and how many calories you would burn within 10 min for a person weighing 115 lbs. If you weigh more or less than the calories burned will go up or down. You can go to http://www.healthstatus.com/cgi-bin/calc/calculator.cgi and enter your height and weight for an accurate reading just for you!

My Life as a Military Wife
Below I will post updates on life as a military wife and lessons to learn and grow from.

Let's face it, military life is NOT easy! As a military wife we spend long, sleepless nights without our husbands, try to juggle laundry, cooking meals, messes, children, finances, jobs, homework, hygiene, dishes...i could go on and on, but you get the point...As a military wife we can feel like a "single" parent most of the time and that is difficult on anybody. I think as a military wife it's easier for us to think about what's going wrong in our lives, or to think about all the struggles and trials we face. It's NOT easy being a military wife, but it's NOT impossible. The hardest but one of the most crucial parts to being a military spouse is to stay positive.  You become what you think. Just as you can think yourself into "unhappiness", you can think yourself into "happiness." You can choose to be happy at any moment. Some choose to dwell on shortcomings and misfortunes and all that will bring is more shortcomings and misfortunes. Nothing positive will come if all you do is think negatively. Instead, choose to only think positively. When something negative arises, I just think to myself, "Does this deserve my time and attention?" If not, then don't dwell on it. Instead channel your energy into something positive and into something that does deserve your attention. I've never had anything positive come by thinking negatively. If you have time to whine about something, you have time to do something about it. If you can do something about it, then do it. If it's out of your control, then there is no need to worry about it. Worrying doesn't get you anywhere. We can't control when our husband's get home or when they get sent on deployments. We can't control where we move or how long we will stay. All we can do is to use that time we are given and make the most of it. Not just make the most of it, but make the best of it. You can bloom wherever you are planted.

I have been a military wife for 5 1/2 years and have 2 children ages 5 years and 2 years. Every year we have moved, so I never got the chance to settle and make new friends. For the majority of our military life my husband has traveled, been on a MEU, constantly going out in the field, deployments, and has worked long hours. Like most military wives, we have been married for X amount of years, but the time spent together might be a quarter or half that amount. I have to say that with my husband being gone most of the time, and lack of friends from constantly moving made military life hard on my children and I. It can be frustrating never feeling like you ever have a "set" schedule. Maybe he will be home in time for dinner, maybe not? Sometimes you make plans and the military can unexpectedly change everything. Nothing is set in stone. The time with our spouse is limited, so wouldn't you think we would treasure that time? Sometimes we do...but other times it can be spent arguing. Half the arguments can be avoided if you dont set unrealistic expectations or wait for your partner to make you happy. I have learned over many years to not count on your husband to make you happy. I was constantly looking for my husband to make me happy, and to entertain me when he got home. While your husband may come home after a long day's work, he may want to come home and play video games, sleep, or have some alone time; while you on the other hand are ready to hand your children off to him as soon he steps in the door, or you are ready to get out of the house when all he wants is to stay home and relax. Instead, give your husband 15 min atleast to unwind from the day when he get's home. If your husband likes to sleep, play video games, etc don't wait or get frustrated waiting for him to finish. Instead, do what makes you happy. Work on a hobby, make friends, exercise, or try something new. It doesn't mean that you should spend the whole day away from each other, but each of you should have time to yourself and time together. Marriage is full of compromises. Set some time aside to talk together about how you can improve your marriage and how you feel. Use "I" statements. "I feel", "I think", "I wish" etc. Don't ever use "always, or never statements." The best time to talk is when you are both calm and can discuss rather than battle it out. Compromise. If your husband wants to stay home and relax and you want to go out everyday, maybe you can compromise and agree that he take you out once or twice a week. It's always better to take the higher road and pick and choose your battles. Not everything is worth fighting over.

My 20 month old son broke my eyeglasses, and seeing how they were expensive I didn't want to go by a new pair, so I went to the Family Vision Center on mainside to see if they could fix it. They said that it needed to be saudered back together and that they were not able to fix it, but recommended me to the Watch and Jewelry Repair inside MCX. I took my glasses there, and again they said they weren't able to fix it, but recommended me to Hot Shot in Carlsbad and said they fix everything. I drove down to Hot Shot and this place is amazing!!! They were able to fix my eyeglasses for only $10 and they were done within 15 minutes!! They are so friendly and helpful. I would recommend them anyday!

Today someone heart-attacked my house! They even made a plate full of homemade sugar cookies with a sweet note. Remember to do little things for others cause it could make a HUGE impact in their life. I was praying and asking if what I was doing was making a difference, and God answered my prayer through someone else. You could be someone's angel. Remember to do good continually no matter your circumstance and that You Are Special and Important!!

It's my birthday! I got my hair done at Salon Ink in San Diego cause they are the best! I highly recommend them to EVERYONE. If you are looking for a great place to get your hair done go to Salon Ink! I also went and got my eyebrows threaded for the first time (since I usually wax) at the Westfield Plaza mall in Carlsbad at Brows Shaping Salon. My eyebrows have NEVER looked this good! They did an amazing job and now I will always thread instead of wax cause it looks SO much better and hurts way less! Definitely check both these places out!

I made this S'MORES in a jar today. All you do, is crumble 1 1/2 C of graham crackers and melt 4 Tablespoons of butter (30 seconds in microwave) and add to graham crackers and mix. Put in the bottom of a mason jar. Place the jar on a rectangle pan filled with 1-1 1/2 in of water. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 12 min. Take 3 chocolate hershey bars and brake them up and place in the jar carefully and continue baking for another 3 min. Take Marshmallows and place in the jar and turn the oven to broil on high for 2 min. Take the jar out and let it cool in room temperature. Then eat!!

"For you know who created you and there is only one of you. Never, in all the seventy billion humans who have walked this planet since the beginning of time has there ever been anyone exactly like you. Never, until the end of time, will there be another such as you...From your father, in his moment of supreme love, flowed countless seeds of love, more than four hundred million in number. All of them, as they swam within your mother, gave up the ghost and died. All except one. You! You alone persevered within the loving warmth of your mother's body, searching for your other half, a single cell from your mother so small that more than two million would be necessary to fill an acorn shell. Yet, despite impossible odds, on that vast ocean of darkness and disaster, you persevered, found that infinitesimal cell, joined with it, and began a new life. Your life."

"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do."

"God is your Father in Heaven. Jesus is your brother. You are royalty and someday you will be a goddess. Uphold your family name"

"If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else."

"If I do my best, anything said against me wont amount to anything."

"Be your own kind of beautiful."
"Many of us may feel that our lives are not very important to the entire scheme of things in the universe. The next time you begin to feel that you make little difference, consider all those whose lives would be different if you did not exist. Some of you may feel that others would be better off without you, but before you fall into that trap, remember you have influenced so many lives and so many lives were blessed because of you. You must not lose hope. You must not give up. You do make a difference. Your life has a profound impact on many others. None of us knows the future or how lives today will influence the future generations. But being good and doing good can make a profound difference."

"You are not an accident. Your birth was no mishap. Your parents may not have planned you, but God did. He was not at all surprised by your birth. In fact, he expected it. Long before you were conceived by your parents, you were conceived in the mind of God. He thought of you first. It is not fate, nor chance, nor luck, nor coincidence that you are breathing at this very moment. You are alive because God wanted to create you! The Bible says, "The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me." God prescribed every detail of your body. He deliberately chose your race, the color of your skin, your hair, and every other feature. He custom made your body just the way He wanted it. He also determined the natural talents you would possess and the uniqueness of your personality. The Bible says, "You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. "Because God made you for a reason, he also decided when you would be born and how long you would live. He planned the days of your life in advance, choosing the day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in Your Book! God also planned where you'd be born and where you'd live for His purpose. God left no detail to chance. God decided how you would be born. Regardless of the circumstances of your birth or who your parents are, God had a plan in those two individuals possessed exactly the right genetic makeup to create the custom "you" he had in mind. They had the DNA God wanted to make you. Many children are unplanned by their parents, but they are not unplanned by God. God's purpose took into account human error, and even sin. God doesn't make mistakes. He has a reason for everything he creates. Every plant and every animal was planned by God, and every person was designed with a purpose in mind. God's motive for creating you was his love. God was thinking of you even before he made the world. In fact, that's why he created it! We are the most important thing God made. God made you so he could love you. God says, "I have carried you since you were born; I have taken care of you from your birth. Even when you are old, I will be the same. Even when your hair has turned gray, I will take care of you. I have made you and will take care of you."

Poem by Russell Kelfer

You are who you are for a reason.
You're part of an intricate plan.
You're a precious and perfect unique design,
Called God's special woman or man.

You look like you look for a reason.
Our God made no mistake.
He knit you together within the womb,
You're just what he wanted to make.

The parents you had were the ones he chose,
And no matter how you may feel,
They were custom designed with God's plan in mind,
And they bear the Master's seal.

No, that trauma you faced was not easy.
And God wept that it hurt you so;
But it was allowed to shape your heart
So that into his likeness you'd grow.

You are who you are for a reason,
You've been formed by the Master's rod.
You are who you are, beloved,
Because there is a God!

"Compare what you deserve with what you have and you will be happy."

"If we all did the things we were capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves."
On the Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman
  "On the night you were born, the moon smiled with such wonder that the stars peeked in to see you and the night wind whispered, "Life will never be the same." Because there had never been anyone like you...ever in the world...So whenever you doubt just how special you are and you wonder who loves you, how much and how far, listen for geese honking high in the sky. (They're singing a song to remember you by.) Or notice the bears asleep at the zoo. (It's because they've been dancing all night for you!) Or drift off to sleep to the sound of the wind. (Listen closely...it's whispering your name again!) For never before in story or rhyme (not even once upon a time) has the world ever known a you, my friend, and it never will, not ever again..."

Mother Teresa's Anyway Poem

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
